Do Probiotics Help You Lose Weight?

Just this past week, I began using live probiotics (the kind you keep in a refrigerator) to help with some digestive issues.  I’ve seen immediate improvement.  So, of course, I went online to do some research.  I wondered whether probiotics might result in improved metabolism, which would result in greater weight loss.

Sure enough, I found at least  one article touting the weight-loss benefits of probiotics.

Of course, if you do enough research, you’ll find articles saying probiotics don’t work (note most originate with pharmaceutical-sponsored medical associations or pharmaceutical-funded academic research agencies).

All I know is…it’s working for me.

If you feel your metabolism needs a boost, or you’re finding you can’t eat foods that you know are good for you, give some live cultures a try.  You might be pleasantly surprised.

Recipe Of The Week

Cool Cucumber Sandwiches
1/4 cucumber, sliced lengthwise
1/4 tomato, sliced
Miracle Whip
pepper
2 slices, wheat bread

Toast wheat bread and spread lightly with Miracle Whip.  Sprinkle with pepper (or other garnish, as desired).  Stack cucumbers and tomatoes, then top with second slice. Serve with fresh salad, veggies or fruit.

Perfect for hot summer days!

A few people have written in with questions about probiotics…

You can find them in your local health food store, drugstore and some grocery stores. Yes, they can also be found in yogurt, but then you get all the dairy, sugar, fat and calories that go along with yogurt.

I’ve had some good luck with http://www.drugstore.com. Sort by products with the most reviews, and then READ them.

I use the refrigerated version, but my brand can go a month without refrigeration, so…you can still use probiotics when traveling, via mail order, etc.
